I am an artist of 40 years on my journey. I use different disciplines concurrently and have always engaged in the wider world to build my knowledge. I am partially sighted though this has offered its own insights as seeing has many dimensions and I am still learning how to do it.

Biography

I am a London Artist and did my degree in printmaking and portraiture at NELP in 1979 where I explored three dimensional portraiture and first explored light portraits. I maintained my first studio in east London whilst working for ten years with filmmakers, broadcasters and politicians in the political side of the film industry related to government legislation.  I concurrently explored aspects of theatre including scene painting looking at scale and impact of ensemble arts working together.

As a printmaker I exhibited at the Whitechapel upon graduation.  It was a small step from printmaking to cutting glass as there is rigidity in both processes to exploit.  I built my first free standing glass screen in 1986; my use of glass in jewellery was featured in 1987 on Wogan, Top of the Pops and The Observer and I have been developing artwork in this medium ever since.

My strong Interest in colour and its physiological affects on the body led to published work on the subject. (Spirit Magazine 1997). I studied with William Spear, a Golden Gate Feng Shui Master in the early 1990’s to explore my interest in emotional flow and energy and the impact of the environment on the psyche.

A consistent interest has always been in light.  My early experience of religion and churches imparted an interest in religious iconography where we are encouraged to gaze without thinking.  Light modulation has a powerful impact on any environment, it tells its own story in its constant movement and changing appearance.

My first one-woman show was in 1986, the last three were over 2016/17 period.  The last group showing was in October 2018 at the Mall Galleries in Mayfair, London.

I view myself as a studio artist, its where all the development goes on. I am currently working on extending into three dimensions through sculpture.  I continue with my printmaking, that is an ongoing love, and I have been producing ceramics over the past couple of years.
